We use the root chakra for grounding, it is also the foundation of the chakra tower in our energy body and the anchoring point of our energy as we open up to the higher chakras in the body. We must ground our energy, through the root chakra, to prevent energy from getting “stuck” in our body as we move through and open up the energy body. Visualize roots growing down into the Earth or water pouring out of a pitcher as you let the old energy fall away. When your energy is grounded and your root shock rough is comfortably open it becomes like a guide for energy to the other chakras. We also draw healing energy up from mother earth in our practices and the root chakra is the gatekeeper
Step 1. Begin by sounding your inner tone and pay attention to the pitch of your inner tone as you feel the tone lowering down your spine and then hold the tone in the area of your tailbone, becoming aware of any sensation you feel in your root chakra, and fix your attention to that area as you continue to hold your inner tone to that frequency.
Step 2. Breath into the root chakra as you hold your inner tone to its frequency. Do this by "pulling" your breath down your spine and towards your sphincter as you expand your belly. Simultaneously draw pranic energy up from your feet and into your root chakra, and then suspend the breath for a moment, feeling the energy collect at the base of your spine as you focus your awareness of your inner tone to the sensation you feel around your tailbone.
Step 3. Exhale gently while keeping your attention and your inner tone set at the location of your root chakra and let the energy expand and begin to open up.
Step 4. Repeat steps 2. and 3. until you feel the energy in your root chakra open up completely. This will feel like you're sitting on a cloud and the cloud is raining out all of the tension in your pelvic area.
Grounding your energy body needs to be the first action and intention of any type of energy work. Just like an electrical circuit, if you're not grounded you could blow a fuse.
